Structure Zig-Zag
Clean swing structure visualization. See market structure at a glance without the chart clutter.
What It Does
Market structure is the backbone of price action trading. Higher highs, higher lows, lower highs, lower lows — this is how trends are defined and how reversals are identified. The problem is that reading raw candlestick charts for structure requires experience, and even experienced traders can misjudge a swing in real time.
Structure Zig-Zag strips away the noise. It connects confirmed swing highs and lows with clean directional lines — green when the structure is making higher moves, red when it's making lower moves. In one glance, you can see the trend, the swing points, and where the structure shifted. No labels, no boxes, no clutter. Just the structural skeleton of price action.
This is the tool that turns a chaotic candlestick chart into a clear structural map. It's the foundation layer that makes everything else easier to read — add it first, then layer BOS/CHoCH labels, patterns, or trendlines on top if you want more detail. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Key Features
Get Started in 4 Steps
Add to Your Chart
Search for 'Structure Zig-Zag TheTraderShark' on TradingView and add it to your chart. The default Swing Length of 10 provides a balanced view of structure on most timeframes.
Read the Color
Green lines = bullish structure. Red lines = bearish structure. The moment the color changes, structure has shifted. This single visual cue tells you the most important thing: which side of the market has control.
Identify Key Swing Levels
The peaks and troughs of the zig-zag are your key structural levels. These are the highs and lows that need to be broken for trend continuation or reversal. Watch for price to test these levels.
Layer Additional Tools
Use Structure Zig-Zag as your foundation layer, then add the Swing Detection Engine for HH/HL/LH/LL labels or the Candle Pattern Scanner for entry signals at swing points.
Settings & Configuration
Number of bars to confirm a swing high or low. Lower values create a more detailed zig-zag with more swing points. Higher values show only major structure.
Color for zig-zag segments during bullish structure (higher highs and higher lows).
Color for zig-zag segments during bearish structure (lower highs and lower lows).
Width of the zig-zag lines in pixels. Thicker lines make structure more visible on busy charts.
Style of the zig-zag lines: Solid, Dashed, or Dotted. Solid is recommended for primary structure visibility.
Non-Repainting Verified
Once a signal prints on the chart, it stays. No redrawing, no lookback bias, no false history. Every signal you see is exactly what you would have seen in real-time.
